As cities worldwide endeavor to make their transport portfolio more sustainable, cycling is increasingly relied on as an essential ingredient. But how can more be made of a mode of transport that has, historically, been so marginalized in so many cities across the globe? This presentation offers a canon with five pillars—as well as accompanying research needs—to help cities better position cycling as a critical component in the future of their transport systems.
