Question and purpose The objective of the project is - to analyse if and under what conditions economic instruments are effective, efficient and have legitimacy. This is done by developing and testing two contrasting perspectives on the design and effects of economic instruments in environmental policy; behavioural economics and critical institutional sociology. - to evaluate the effects of economic instruments targeting behavioural changes amongst individuals, private firms as well as public organisations responsible for implementing national policies or for priorities between different political goals - to analyse the applicability of these findings in the Norwegian context. - to contribute to a broader theoretical discussion within social sciences on the use of economic instruments and the relation between state and market
